Ancient tomb discovered in Jableh near Syrian coast
Syria, Local, 12/19/2005
An ancient tomb was unearthed during archeological excavations at Oqieba site in Jableh near the Syrian coast, but no findings of value were discovered there as the place had been apparently looted by saboteurs.
Head of Jableh Ruins Department, Ibrahim Kheir Bek, said the burial site dated back to the Roman Period and included an arch-shaped 64 x 66 cm door carved in the stones.
He added that a half-circular 3.0 x 2.5 x 1.5 meter doorway lead to the tomb, with natural stone cavities at its end. Other stones laid vertically were also found in the northern part of the individual tomb.
