Persons damages from al-Zaweyah incident in Libya continue sit in in al-Khartoum

Persons who are harmed by the Libyan al-Zaweyah incidents, in which 35 persons were killed following an attack by one Libyan group against Sudanese and Africans in 2000, continued their sit-in for the fourth running day before the headquarters of the UN mission in Khartoum, Sudan, in protest of what they called the neglect of both the Sudanese and Libyan governments for their case which is five year old.
Several effected persons demanded opening an immediate file into the incidents and demanded the UN and the Libyan government to carry out its obligations to pay compensations for the killed and injured. Others called on Sudan to compensate those who returned from Libya for the damage inflected on them of the long waiting and the lack of seriousness in dealing with their case.
The chairman of the the harmed persons committee, Mubarak Hamid, said that the Sudanese in Libya were exposed to great amount of torture and damage, and many of them were killed as a result, while others were put in camps that were as stables prepared for cattle imported to Libya.
He said that the number of hurt persons who were evacuated from Libya to Sudan tolled 7522, noting that there other 182 considered missing since the year 2000.
Member of the defense lawyer team, Abdul Fattah Zeidan, said that there are legal rights for Sudanese citizens, and these rights were not observed.
