Obstacles, challenges facing Gulf states summit

The 26th ordinary summit of the Gulf cooperation council GCC member states comes amid obstacles the GCC states are facing. Gulf sources said it expects that the "Gulf summit will be an ordinary one by all means and will avoid sensitive files," especially inter- Gulf relations. This is in remarks to the Saudi – United Arab Emirates relations because of the request made by Riyadh to reconsider their border demarcation.

Since 2004, Kuwait has been seeking to convince Riyadh to facilitate the implementation of the project of the pipeline for exporting the Qatari gas to Kuwait. It seems that Saudi Arabia opposes its passages trough its regional waters.

On June 29th, Saudi Arabia officially protested establishing a bridge project linking between the UAE and Qatar on the ground it will run through "the Saudi territorial waters, according to the Saudi minister of interior prince Nayef Bin Abdul Aziz.

Political analysist consider that this summit "will be a traditional summit because of the bature of the Arab and Gulf diplomacy which is careful not to make open inter- differences, and which is careful to run them with secrecy." The GCC council which includes Saudi Arabia, UAE, Kuwait, Qatar, Oman, Bahrain will hold a consultation biannual summit and an annual one at the end of every year.
