On the reduction of the American forces in Iraq
Iraq-USA, Politics, 12/14/2005

The US administration hopes to see a decrease in the pace of attacks following the elections which would permit a schedule for the withdrawal of the American forces.

The British daily the Times said that Washington and London intend to start a gradual withdrawal for its forces immediately after the formation of a permanent committee in the country as from March 2006.

The paper quoted a high ranking western official in Baghdad that "one of the first issues which we will talk about (with the new Iraqi government) is the gradual transfer of security, especially in cities and governorates."

Meantime, the Polish prime minister announced in a press conference in Warsaw that his government will take during the two next weeks a decision over extending the mission of its forces in Iraq following consultations with its allies. He explained that the final decision will take into account the results of the Iraqi elections.

The previous government in Warsaw promised to withdraw the Polish soldiers from Iraq, tolled 1600 soldiers by the beginning of 2006, but the new government proposed to extend the mission.
