The course of Saddam trial
Iraq, Politics, 12/8/2005
During Wednesday's trial session for Saddam Hussein, the court listened to the testimonies of two witnesses from behind the curtains. They were introduced by the initials of their names and their voices were changed in order not to be identified.
The chairman of the court vowed to provide Saddam's defense team with all information concerning the witnesses. The first witness who was called " Wao" said that he was exposed to all sorts of torture in the detention centers for 70 days after the al-Dajil incident in 1982 at the hands of the Iraqi intelligence men.
The former chief of the Iraqi intelligence Barazan al-Takriti, brother of Saddam Hussein, interfered several times and interrupted the witnesses, asking for the names of officers that tortured this witness, but the chairman of the court asked him not to boycott the witness.
During the trial, and the same as in the other previous four sessions, the voice was not heard clearly so that the media could not give full coverage, and they were permitted to broadcast indirectly and with a delay of time ranging between half an hour after the time of the occurrence of the court of the trial events.
