Syria-Regional, Local, 12/8/2005

15th World Trade Union Conference held early December in Havana unanimously elected Syria as a Head of the World Trade Union, Trade Union Official in Syria said on Wednesday.

"Electing Syria as head of the World Trade Union represents an obvious message by participating countries to show solidarity with her and to express rejection of all threats, pressure and conspiracies on her," Chairman of the Syrian Trade Union Mohammed Shabban Azouz told SANA.

He pointed out that the four-day conference discussed many syndicalistic, economic, financial and political issues then took many related resolutions and recommendations.

"The conference condemned the UN 1636 resolution and the report of the UN Investigation Committee into Hariri's Assassination, stressing that the report is politicized and full of contradictions which are far away from reality," Azouz said.

He said that the conference appreciated Syria's cooperation with the UN Investigation Committee and demanded of a just and non-politicized report.

"The conference warned against truing the United Nations into a means to serve all colonial plots," added.

The conference was held in Cuba from December 1st running to December 4th with the participation of 540 delegates representing 270 unions and vocational organizations of 73 countries.
