Syrians mobilizing internal support against outside pressure
Syria-Regional, Politics, 12/8/2005

Syrian and Arab organizations and officials on Wednesday reiterated support to Syria in the face of pressure against the country.

In Damascus, members of the Engineers' Syndicate staged a sit-in at the tent of al-Sham in the Umayyad Square.

Chief of the engineers Hasan Ali delivered a speech in which he underlined that the Syrian engineers stand by the leadership of President Bashar al-Assad in the face of unjustified pressures on Syria.

Syrian and Arab Participants in the currently held Arab Family Forum in Damascus also visited the tent of al-Sham, showing full solidarity with Syria's national and pan-Arab stances in the face of challenges.

Later, nurses of the national hospital of al- Moasa held a sit-in at the tent of the nation in Al-Rawda Square, rejecting pressures Syria is encountering.

Chief of the nurses Yusra Malil said in a statement "we stress today our support to the wise leadership of President Assad to confront threats and challenges being hatched against the country." In Beirut, Deputy Leader of the Supreme Shiite Islamic council, Sheikh Abdullamir Qabalan called on the Islamic extraordinary conference being held in the Saudi holy city of Mecca to stand by Syria in the face of plots against the Arab state.

Qabalan, in a message sent to the Saudi King Abdullah Ibn Abdul Aziz, appealed to all Islamic countries to back Syria and Iran in the face of pressure against them, and to offer full support to the Palestinian people in their struggle to establish their independent state with Jerusalem as its capital.

Speaker of Lebanese Parliament Nabih Berri, for his part, underlined that Syria is cooperating with the international investigation committee into the assassination of Lebanese former Premier Rafiq al-Hariri.

"Pressure on Syria has been practiced before the assassination, and even before the issuance of the UN resolution 1559," Berri said during a meeting with a delegation of Lebanese journalists.

Meanwhile, in Abu Dhabi, the United Arab Emirates' Daily of Al-Bayan strongly criticized some Lebanese sides that seek, by all means, to ally with other powers in order to hatch conspiracies against Syria.

"Leaderships of Lebanese Security apparatuses are busy nowadays in accusing Syria within the context of the US campaign against her," the daily said in a comment today.

In Cairo, Sudanese Minister of Cooperation and Development and the Chairman of former session of the Arab Economic Federation Council Altijani Saleh underlined the Council's full support to Syria in the face of pressures she is encountering..

"It is necessary for the investigation into Hariri assassination to be far away from politicization... it should concentrate on unveiling the truth," Saleh said in a speech at the opening of the 82nd session of the Council at the Arab League.
