Iraq, Politics, 12/6/2005

The American army announced in a statement that Muhammad Hamza al-Zubeidi, the former Iraqi prime minister died in prison.

Barazan Ibrahim al-Hassan, brother of the Iraqi president and former director of the Iraqi intelligence, said during a trial session for the Iraqi president that al-Zubeidi died one day before the trial session which was held on Monday.

On Saturday, an Iraqi military statement said that "a male prisoner (67 year old) was announced to be dead by the treating doctor in one of the military hospitals on December 2nd." However, the spokesman for prisoners service in Iraq explained that al-Zubeidi "died naturally after he complained of pain in his chest."
