Eight Yemeni security men killed in attacks for al-Houthi followers
Yemen, Politics, 11/30/2005

Eight members of the Yemeni police were killed in attacks launched by gunmen of the followers of the Shiite advocate Bader Eddine al-Houthi at centers and points for the police in Sadah governorate northwest of the country.

Witnesses from tribal men in the area said that the attacks took place on Monday in al-Khafji area and al-And in Sadah governorate northwest of Yemen , 250 km north of Sanaa, and resulted also in killing and wounding undetermined number of individuals in the lines of the attackers.

The witnesses added that scores of military armed teams and vehicles were deployed in several areas in Sadah in a campaign to chase the gunmen who have been deployed in the areas adjoining the rangeland al-Naqaa mountainous area where their leader Bader Eddine al-Houthi has been fortified together with hundreds of his followers since April this year.

The attack on the police points came after al-Houthi followers circulated publications against the Yemeni government describing it as "tyrant" and criticizing its continued siege of al-Houthi and his followers. The publications also included slogans ever repeated by al-Houthi supporters very often against the USA and Israel.

Several areas in Sadah governorate have been witnessing great tension since more than two weeks because of continued detention of al-Houthi followers and continued trial of scores of them in Sanaa including members in "Sinai terrorist cell" which includes 36 members. Members of this cell have been tried despite the decision by the Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh to pardon al-Houthi on September 26th this year.
