Legitimacy of Saddam's trial questioned
Iraq, Politics, 11/29/2005
Qatar's former minister of Justice Najib al-Nueimi, a consultant to former Iraqi President Saddam Hussein defense team, questioned the legitimacy of the trial being held against President Hussein.
He said that the defense team preferred not to listen to witnesses until the extent of the legitimacy of the court is established, concerning its composition and its authority, according to local and international laws.
The chairman of the court Razkar Amin responded, calling on al-Nueimi to address a written memorandum to the court to this effect. Nueimi also called for not resuming the trial without ensuring the safety of the defence team.
Because of the murder of both lawyers Sadoun al-Janabi and Adel al-Zubeidi the trial was surrounded with strong security measures. N.
