Syria fully cooperates with investigation: party official
Syria-Lebanon, Politics, 11/28/2005

Syria is committed to the international resolutions and cooperation with the international investigation into the assassination of Lebanese former Premier Rafiq Hariri, Assistant Secretary General of al-Baath Arab Socialist Party Abdullah al-Ahmar underlined Sunday.

"Syria has full interest to unveil the perpetrators of the crime... there are several attempts from foreign sides to politicize the investigation to target Syria's national and pan-Arab stances," al-Ahmar said during several meetings with senior party and political officials in the Sudanese capital of Khartoum.

He added that the national unity in Syria is very strong and it has passed through great tests throughout history, saying that it now stands by the leadership of President Bashar al-Assad in the face of pressures.

"Syria will not bow to pressure... it will continue to back the Palestinian people to restore their occupied lands, and still stands by the Iraqis to regain sovereignty on their own land," the senior party official said.

He stressed the importance of boosting the Arab efforts to improve the Arab situation and promote to the level of challenges, calling for full cooperation and coordination among the Arab states.
