Al-Assad receives Prince Bandar Bin Sultan, Saudi role appreciated
Syria-Saudi Arabia, Politics, 11/28/2005

Syria's President Bashar al-Assad met with the Secretary General of Saudi National Security Council, Prince Bandar Bin Sultan, at al-Rawda palace in Damascus Sunday.

The meeting was attended by Deputy Foreign Minister Walid al-Muaallem.Before leaving Damascus, Prince Bandar bin Sultan expressed pleasure for visiting Syria, noting that Syria is his second country.

"I have delivered a letter from the Custodian of the two Holy Mosques King Abdullah to his brother President Bashar al-Assad for exchanging opinions and consultations for the best interests of both Syrian and Saudi Arabian peoples and the Arab nation," the prince told reporters.

The prince added that King Abdullah wanted to congratulate President Bashar al-Assad for his "wise and brave decision" taken two days ago to cooperate with the UN investigation into the murder of Lebaon's Prime Minister Rafiq al-Hariri. "This decision has important reflections that serve the interest of the Arab nation and the Syrian people as well" he added.

"kingdom of Saudi Arabia has always cared for the safety of Syrian people and leadership," Bandar said.

Bandar pointed out that the region is passing through a critical and sensitive stage so "all need to behave wisely and carefully." He noted that the letter he has delivered from King Abdullah to President al-Assad reflects the king's policy of consultations with other Arab leaders.

"This is not my first visit to Syria and will not be the last one," Bandar said just before leaving Damascus.
