The Syrian Stance is not a Back off: Muaallim
Syria-Lebanon-UN, Politics, 11/26/2005

The Syrian stance by reaching an agreement withthe UN investigation is not a backing off, Deputy Foreign Minister Walid Mualllim said Friday.

These Syrian officials will be interrogated as part of the investigation into the murder of Lebanon's Prime Minister Rafiq al-Hariri.

"No Syrian official announced before that Syria will not cooperate with the UN Investigating committee and in the light of the required assurances that meet what Syria asked for there was nothing but to cooperate." Muaallim added in joint press conference with Foreign Ministry's Legal Advisor Riyadh al-Daoudi.

" According to President Bashar al-Assad's speech on Syria's commitment to continue cooperation with the international committee and in the light of assurances Syria had received that its national sovereignty and individuals rights will be respected, the Syrian leadership has decided to inform Mehlis that it has accepted his suggestion, as a compromise, that the venue to listen to the five Syrians be the UN headquarters in Vienna," Muaallim said.
