1st Syrian-Qatari Investment Conference Opens in Damascus

The first Syrian-Qatari Investment Cooperation Conference started deliberations entitled "Investment for Investment" at Damascus Sheraton hotel at Tuesday evening.

Syria's State Minister for Population Affairs Ghiath Jaraatli said the conference aims to boost and activate investment in order to support the country's development efforts in raising growth rate and work productivity and get acquainted with Qatari investments in the region. He said the new investment law will soon be issued to expand the domain investment in Syria and attract investors.

He referred to the facilities being offered by the government to improve investment climate, saying that confidence in the Syrian economy was clear during the last period as the rate of deposits in the Commercial Bank of Syria was higher than withdrawals.

The volume of the investments governed by the law No. 10 of Investment amounted to SP 232 billion in the third quarter of this year. Jaraatli asserted the importance of Syrian - Qatari relations, joint agreements, memorandums of understanding and their role in encouraging and protecting investments.

For his part, Head of Qatari businessmen delegating Nawaf bin Kahled al-Thani said that the conference is an opportunity to be familiar with investment environment in Syria as there is real desire on the part of Qatari businessmen to invest in it.

Head of Adam Company, the organizer of the conference Wael Kikhia asserted the importance of investment in boosting joint Arab action in the economic domain.

The conference was attended by the State planning commission, the Syrian Arab Airlines, Savings and Industry Banks and a number of private sector's companies.
