Lahoud: commitment to distinguished relations with Syria
Lebanon-Syria, Politics, 11/23/2005

President Emile Lahoud of Lebanon called his countrymen not be lured by currents or policies that seek to take Lebanon away from its Arab identity or environment, particularly its distinguished relations with Syria.

In a letter marking the National Day, President Lahoud said Tuesday that the Lebanese should work hard to keep their country as a civilized bridge between the East and the West rather than a gate for policies that threaten Arab unity and security.

President Lahoud added that the series of murders which took place on the Lebanese territories coupled with foreign interventions in the role of national Lebanese resistance and its future are not separate from what is being plotted against Lebanon.

The Lebanese President said that his country's commitment to the international resolutions is the mechanism which defines Lebanon's approach to the Arab-Israeli conflict and subsequently the Palestinian issue.
