UN Security Council fails deploring escalation between Israel, Hizbullah
Lebanon-Israel, Politics, 11/22/2005
The UN Security Council has failed to reach a united position concerning the reciprocated bombardment took place between Hizbullah and Israel in occupied Shabaa Farms areas.
Diplomatic sources said that there are differences between the USA and Algeria over not having an agreement on a draft prepared by France condemning the reciprocated bombardment which was started by Hizbullah, according to the draft, as well as the Israeli violations of the Lebanese airspace.
These sources said that Algeria, the only Arab member in the Security Council which is composed of 15 members, refused to hold Hizbullah as the only side responsible for the escalation.
On the other hand, the Lebanese prime minister Fouad Sinioura made contacts with the ambassadors of France and the USA in Beirut in an attempt to put an end to the escalation in the south, following the reciprocated bombardment between Israel and Hizbullah.
A Lebanese governmental source said that Sinioura also contacted with the UNIFIL commander Allen Balgreini and the UN representative to Lebanon Gear Pederson and the leadership of the Lebanese Hizbullah party to this effect.
