Jordanians deplore Amman explosions in a demonstration

Thousands of Jordanians took part in a demonstration against the attacks the capital Amman witnessed by the three recent explosions. The demonstration started on Friday after Friday's sermon.

According to the media spokesman for the general security directorate Bashir al-Daaja, more than 200,000 Jordanians took part in the demonstrations when it took the streets starting from the great al-Husseini mosque towards the building of the capital's secretariat.

The demonstrators who came from all parts of Jordan raised banners announcing their tribal or political affiliation as well as the pictures of the Jordanian King Abdullah II. They chanted slogans deploring the leader of al-Qaida organization in Iraq, Abu Musab al-Zarqawi.

An opinion poll issued in Jordan several days ago showed that two thirds of the Jordanians changed their attitude in a negative way about how they feel about al-Qaida organization in Iraq.

For his part, the Jordanian minister of the Interior Aouni Yarfas, who took part in the demonstration, said that the Jordanian authorities imposed strong security measures on border crossings, where passengers are checked and inspected by very advanced means as well as cars, trucks and buses.
