Jordanian Muslim Brothers urge more civil freedom
Jordan, Politics, 11/17/2005
The Muslim Brothers group in Jordan, whose party is considered the largest organized political movement in the country, urged the government to increase civil freedoms, warning that any campaign after the recent explosions will be conducive to what it called "igniting religious extremism".
The guide of the group Abdul Mijuid al-Zuneibat said that the means to fight what he called extremist views is permitting more freedoms, noting that the "state we live in, in the Middle East, had rejected such extremist views and furnished for the fertile soil."
He also urged for ending the embargo impose on scholars and preachers since the fierce campaign launched by the authorities following the finalization of the peace agreement in 1994 with Israel, when the preachers were accused of violating the law which bars sermons in mosques without a license.
