Three marines killed in Iraq

Three American marines were killed during their participation in the military operation known as "iron curtain" led by the American army since several days in the west of Iraq.

In a statement, the US army said that one soldier died because of his wounds in an explosion in al-Obeidi city. In another statement, the army said that a second soldier was killed in a similar explosion in the city.

The third soldier was killed in the same city after he was attacked by gunmen with light weapons. All killed persons are from the same military unit.

The American army and the Iraqi forces entered into al-Obeidi as part of the campaign launched west of Iraq adjoining the Syrian border in order to chase presumed gunmen.

The American army announced on Monday it killed 50 gunmen in five air raids launched against al-Obeidi city. It added in a statement that the raids bombarded targets a the banks of the Euphrates river, 20 km from the border with Syria.
