Five American soldiers killed in Iraq

Acts of violence were renewed in various parts of Iraq during which several persons were killed in the lines of the American and Iraqi forces, in a clear deterioration of the security situation there.

In Karkouk, the American army said that two American soldiers were killed and two others injured when their vehicle collided in a car accident with a supply convoy. An oil truck was burnt on the way and this by its turn resulted in killing two soldiers.

One American marine died because of wounds he had from a bomb attack in al-Karabelah west of Iraq. A statement by the American army said that two marines died after they were hit by small weapons fire in al-Khaledeyah town west of Baghdad during Thursday confrontation.

In Baqouba northeast of Baghdad, three police men were killed and two others injured when gunmen opened fire at one inspection point in the city. In Baghdad five guards for the Omani embassy were injured when gunmen opened fire at them.

In south of Baghdad, namely in al-Qamishli, the Iraqi police said that one police man was killed and three injured when one roadside bomb went off near their vehicle. Three Iraqi women and one American soldier were injured when gunmen detonated one booby trapped car to the east of the capital, Baghdad.
