Bush calls Syria for complete cooperation with UN committee
Syria-USA, Politics, 11/12/2005
The US President George W. Bush has called on Syria to fully cooperate with the UN committee in charge of investigating in the killing of the former Lebanese prime minister Rafiq al-Hariri and to stop the attempt to frighten and destabilize the Lebanese government.
In a speech he delivered in Pennsylvania, Bush criticized President Bashar al-Assad because of his tough speech in which he criticized the Lebanese leaderships and the UN investigation Detlev Mehlis committee. Bush urged Syria to "stop exporting violence and to start importing democracy."
Bush also accused the Syrian government of taking "worrying step " by detaining the opposition activist Kamal al-Labawani because of al-Labawani's support and backing for democratic reforms.
Bush's speech came one day after the Syrian president vowed to collaborate with the UN investigation committee, but he simultaneously stressed he will not scarify his country national interests.
