Syrian and world reactions on al-Assad's speech
Syria-Regional, Politics, 11/12/2005
" President Bashar al-Assad, in his speech yesterday, spoke as a national and pan-Arab leader to assert his country's commitment to her dignity and sovereignty," member of the Yemeni Socialist Party Ali al-Sarari said Friday.
Al-Sarari added, in a statement, that President al-Assad's speech underlined Syria's right to maintain her sovereignty and renewed her respect of the international law.
Secretary General of Yemeni Nasserite unionist People's Organization Sultan al-Atwani underscored the organization's stand by Syria in "facing what she is exposed to under the pretext of assassination of former Lebanese Premier Rafiq al-Hariri."
"What came in President al-Assad's speech is frank and clear regarding exploiting the issue of al-Hariri assassination to draw Syria into position of accusation," Atwani indicated.
Damascus represents the "beating heart of Arabism" and the "castle of Arab steadfastness" and "we will not allow any one to hurt this heart," Atwani concluded.
"There is no ambiguity in President al-Assad speech, but the ambiguity lies in goals that antagonistic forces want to achieve through transforming the Hariri blood into a good for trading," Deputy Secretary General of the main Islamist party Islah (Reform) Abdulwahab Al-Ansi, said.
"The comprehensive speech of President al-Assad is an affection of every Arab Person who feels of injustice that surrounds the Arabs and their pan-Arab principles at a time of degeneration and the US and Zionist hegemony on the region," Editor-in-chief of Lebanese ad-Diyar newspaper Charles Ayoub said in the paper editorial.
Lebanese el-Shark newspaper noted that the speech has determined the main outlines of Syria's foreign policy in the forthcoming stage as will determined that the region is in front of two options either resistance or chaos.
"The speech has raised several important equations related to the national causes and the struggle in the region," Deputy Secretary General of Hizbullah, Sheikh Na'em Qassem said in a statement.
He called for an honest, just and transparent investigation in cause of the Hariri assassination for reaching the truth and unveiling the real criminals.
In Damascus, mosque orators and imams hailed Syria's steadfastness in the face of the current pressures and challenges saying "What is required in this critical stage is to strengthen the national unity for confronting dangers and Israel which wants to control the region with its nuclear weapons."
They stressed that president al-Assad speech "has drawn prospects of our home, people and nation's future and clarified Syria's patriotic stances towards the nation's just causes."
