Amman explosions victims increase, vast detention campaign
Jordan, Politics, 11/11/2005

The Jordanian security authorities launched a vast campaign of detention and arrested large number of suspects in the course of investigations to the explosions in three hotels in Amman.

The explosions had resulted in killing 60 persons after the announcement made today morning on the death of the renowned Syrian film maker Mustafa al-Aqqad because of wounds he had in the explosions.

A security source that wanted to be anonymous said that among the detainees are Jordanians and Arabs, including Iraqis.

The explosions which were vastly condemned at the Arab and international levels resulted in injuring more than 100 persons.

Jordanian security officials said in televised statements to the Jordanian TV that they made progress seizing important information in the investigations they are making that will enable them to know the persons behind these explosions, refusing to give more details.

The Jordanian king vowed to bring persons responsible for the explosions to justice, stressing confidence in the ability of the Jordanian security which foiled "several attempts and schemes by terrorists which targeted Jordan."

He said in a televised speech to the Jordanians on Thursday that Jordan is targeted for many reasons including "its role and message in defending the essence of Islam, the religion of moderation and tolerance, and in fighting terrorists who kill the innocents in the name of Islam, and Islam is innocent from them."

The Jordanian king said that these acts will not push his country to change its position or give up its role in fighting of what he called terrorism.

For his part, the Jordanian deputy prime minister Marwan al-Muaashar announced that his country does not intend at the meantime to ask for foreign help in the investigation. He said that the remains of the three explosions executors of the attacks have been found.
