Rashid: Egypt-US free trade agreement talks progressing
Egypt-USA, Economics, 11/10/2005

Egypt's Minister of Foreign Trade and Industry Rashid Mohamed Rashid said that a major breakthrough has been reached in negotiations on a free trade agreement between Egypt and the United States.

Rashid, who is leading Egypt's delegation to the annual conference of the Arab Businessmen Council, said that some 14 Egyptian committees representing all state sectors as well as Trade Ministry experts are working on a paper to help overcome future obstacles.

Rashid said that such an agreement would encourage giant US companies to make their entry into the Egyptian market and increase their investments, adding that Egypt is not the only country to benefit, but likely other Arab states would too.

Rashid held talks with Bahrain's Crown Prince Sheikh Salman Bin Hamad Al-Khalifa on the sidelines of the conference. The talks took up ways of boosting cooperation between the two countries in the fields of trade and economy.
