Egyptian Jordanian papers for Arab solidarity with syria
Regional-Syria, Politics, 11/8/2005

An Egyptian daily asserted on Monday that "the honest and sincere" Arab solidarity with Syria is one of the required steps towards Syria at this time, pointing out that the strong support and making truth be known to all is everybody's responsibility.

Al-Gomhuriah daily asked in an article about what did the US Administration want from Syria, particularly after her assertion of full cooperation with the international committee to investigate assassination of former Lebanese Premier Rafiq Hariri.

The daily added that "Washington, instead of allowing Syria to make gradual progress in economic and political reform, as well as raise the living standards of her citizens, we find that disturbing the Syrian intentions becomes the US policy current obsession."

In Beirut, Deputy President of the Islamic Shiite Supreme Council Abdul Amir Qabalan renewed rejection of any sanctions or attacking Syria. "Lebanon's relationship with sisterly Syria has always been distinguished and firm and will always remain so as we reject pressures on her and making Lebanon a center and a starting point to threaten Syria and conspire on her," Qabalan said in a statement.

Meantime, Lebanese Minister of Energy and Water Mohammed Fennish announced refusal of any exploitation of the issue of the investigation into the assassination of former Lebanese Premier Rafiq Hairiri for settling political scores either internally or externally.

In a word at Tyre city, Fennish said "while we are calling to continue the investigation into assassination of Hariri; we reject any project aimed at any Arab country's security or its blockade because owners of these projects want to collapse the state of opposition and to target the resistance and blockade it."

The Jordanian weekly newspaper of 'al-Majd' called Monday on the Arab to support Syrian people and leadership in the face of the US pressures.

"Syria, worthily, deserves support of all honest men of the Arab Nation.... Undoubtedly, the Arab popular bias to Syria is a bias to the self and belonging to the firm principles as well a victory to the right values," chief editor of al-Majd Fahd al-Remawi said in an article.

"Syria represents the last manifestation of the pan-Arab conscience and last of the Arab steadfast castles in the face of the Zionist and American plots," he concluded.
