Iraq, Military, 11/7/2005

During a military operation called "the iron curtains" launched by the American army and the Iraqis forces for the second running day near al-Huseibeh town on the Syrian border in search for gunmen, two American soldiers were killed.

The US army said it had launched at least 9 air attacks at positions under the pretext that they are sheltering gunmen. A separate raid was launched at what was suspected as a booby trapped car, and no reports were given on casualties.

The correspondent of the New York Times said that the American forces supported by tanks and warplanes dropped a 1.500 kg bomb on al-Huseibah city on Saturday.

The correspondent who accompany the American forces said that the attacking forces faced resistance by light weapons but could only control certain sectors from al-Huseibah town, and carried out house-to-house inspection operations.

The American army alleged that the operation which is number 25, is of the sort which aims at destroying al-Qaida organization at the border, and the operation of smuggling foreign fighters, money and ammunition through this area.
