Three killed, seven injured in attacks in Algeria

Three persons were killed including one policeman and other seven injured in Algeria in various attacks attributed to Islamic members

The Algerian daily al-Khabar reported that one police an was killed and four of his colleagues were injured when one police patrol was exposed to intensive fire by gunmen who were hiding on the road sides on late Sunday evening in al-Taheer town in Jejil district ( 350 km east of Algeria ). Three civilians were also injured in the same attack who were near the site of the ambush.

In a separate incident, the Algerian al-Watan paper said that armed Islamists killed by bullets two persons in the same day in Bumardas province, 50 km to the east of the capital.

Some 70 persons were killed at least since the beginning of October in Algeria, in acts of violence attributed to armed Islamists, according to statistics based on press and official figures.

The Algerians had supported at an overwhelming majority in a referendum in September a presidential initiative over partial pardoning of armed Islamists in a step t end 13 years of acts of violence resulted in killing more than 150,000 persons.

However, the Presidential offer was rejected by the "Salafeyah group for call and fighting" which is considered the largest armed organizations in the country.
