Families of Lockerbie victims holds al-Miqrahi as not guilty

The British "Times" daily on Tuesday said that families of the victims of Lockerbie incident agreed to notify the committee in charge criminal cases in Scotland of their concern over mistakenly convicting a person in the blowing of the American plane over Lockerbie city in December 1988 that clamed the lives of 270 persons.

The paper explained that "the decision was taken during a meeting held by families of the victims in Edinburgh " and these families believe that the "Libyan Abdul Baset al-Miqrahi was wrongly convicted of accusations in blowing up the plane."

Judges from Scotland sentences al-Miqrahi to 27 year imprisonment after he was condemned of blowing of the plane in January 2001, but new evidence emerged that "proves that judicial mistakes took place, and that al-Miqrahi will be able to get a new appeal against his sentence." This evidence will be submitted by his lawyers in the course of filing a new case to the committee in charge of over viewing the Scottish criminal cases in 2006.
