Rana Qleilat held in custody in Cairo
Lebanon-Egypt, Economics, 10/31/2005

A well- informed Lebanese source told the Lebanese daily Assafir that the Egyptian security forces held in custody on Friday evening in Cairo the employee in Madina Bank, Rana Qleilat, after an official request was submitted to the Interpol for her arrest.

Madina Bank, for which she was an involved officer, is said to have embezzled about $800 million from its customers.

This came after Qleilat succeeded in leaving Lebanon via Syria and then Turkey using a forged passport. According to a repatriation agreement signed between the Lebanese and Egyptian government, a request for bringing back Qleilat will be submitted within the few coming hours.

A Lebanese judicial source said that the investigation to the file of Madina Bank embezzlement will see serious effort in the light of the new warrant of arrest issued against Qleilat.
