Israeli raid on south Lebanon
Lebanon-Israel, Military, 10/31/2005

Israeli warplanes raided south Lebanon on Saturday for the first time since four months.

The Lebanese police said that two Israeli helicopters opened machine gun fire at positions close to the Shabaa Farms in south Lebanon.

The police sources explained that the Israeli bullets targeted hills believed to contain fighters of the Lebanese Hizbullah party who are deployed around what is called Burket al-Nakkar and Jabal Saddaneh, but no casualties were reported.

However, clashes between the fighters of the Lebanese Hizbullah party who are deployed along the Lebanese- Israeli borders and Israeli soldiers erupted by the end of June in Shabaa farms sector.

These farms are located in an area of 20 square kilometers on the triangle of the Lebanese, Syrian and Israeli borders.

Both Beirut and Damascus consider this sector as Lebanese while the UN says that they are Syrian lands, relating that to the UN Security Council which said that Israel withdrew from Lebanon in May 2000 and Israel occupied this area from Syria in 1967.
