Iran backs Iraqi territorial integrity, ambassador

Iranian Ambassador to Ankara Firouz Dowlatabadi said on Tuesday that Iran backs Iraqi territorial integrity.
An IRNA report said: He said in an interview with the Turkish TV Canal D that Iran's policy on Iraq focused on supporting Iraq territorial integrity. He said that Iran has been against Iraqi disintegration since 1991.
Dowlatabadi noted that Iran, Syria and Turkey, the neighbors of Iraq are against the country's disintegration.
In response to the question on "Iran's view in case an independent Kurdish government emerged in northern Iraq," he replied, "Actually Iraqi Kurds are unable to establish an independent government by themselves. In fact, the leaders of Iraqi Kurds are aware of such a point. Therefore, they endeavor to cooperate with Iraq's central government.
"As a matter of fact, the desire for independent Kurdistan is being incited by a series of efforts made by the occupying forces.
Such a scenario is supported by the US, Britain and Israel." In reply to another question on Turkish Workers Party (PKK) cross-border sabotage and security cooperation between Iran and Turkey, he said that "collaboration against terrorist groups" is Iran's firm policy and that Iran and Turkey have security cooperation agreement in force.
"Iran does not let terrorist groups to take action against Turkey on its soil, and Iran seriously embarked on campaign against any terrorist groups," he added.
Concerning Iran-Turkey relations, the Iranian diplomat pointed to the good progress on trade and economic cooperation between the two countries and praised the favorable political consensus both Iran and Turkey reached on the regional and international issues.
