Some statistics on women and health in Egypt

Following are indicators for the Egyptian women's health especially which pertains to the mothers and the female reproductive health in Egypt, an Egyptian report showed.

Family planning services and fertility rates

The importance of monitoring the fertility rates emerges from the negative effect caused by the increase in these rates and that resulted in population growth.
¥ The number of females at reproductive age reached 5.5 million in 2003 compared to 5.3 million in 2000.
¥ In 2004 the number of family planning centers rose to around 5,700 distributed throughout the Republic compared to around 5,300 thousand in 2000.
¥ In 2003, total fertility rate reached around 331.8 births per 1000 women in reproductive age. Thus, the fertility rate decreased by 2 per cent if compared to the 2000 rate of 332.4 births per 1000 women in reproductive age. This decrease reflects the State's increasing efforts to make family planning services available throughout the Republic.
¥ The use of contraceptives by females in reproductive age increased from 56.1 per cent in 2000 to around 60 per cent in 2003.

Motherhood and childhood care services

Indicators of motherhood and childhood care services over years 2002-03 show the following:
¥ Percentage of pregnant women benefiting from these services rose from 156.6 per cent in 2002 to 164.2 per cent in 2003.
¥ Percentage of mothers benefiting from post-natal health care services rose to around 2.3 per cent in 2003. Of those rural mothers benefited from these services more than urban mothers, with the former accounting for 2.3per cent and the later 1.1 per cent.
¥ Maternal mortality rate fell from 7 cases for each 10
