Miqdad stresses Syria's cooperative stance in Hariri investigation
Syria-Lebanon, Politics, 10/22/2005
Syria's UN Permanent Representative, Faisal Mikdad, has underlined Syria's full cooperation with the investigations carried out by international investigator Detlev Mehlis.
Mikdad said in a statement at the UN headquarters that Syria has cooperated and will cooperate in the future with Mehlis in the framework of the international and national laws.
He indicated that the Mehlis report is a political report and the accusations it carries have no solid basis and have no credibility, and there are some foreign ministers who have been working on some resolutions for three weeks as if they have already known every word in the report.
He stressed Syria's respect to the United Nations, hoping that the organization will exert every effort to improve the situation in the Middle East, pointing out to Syria's cooperation in everything that is useful to peace and security in the region and for just and comprehensive peace.
He pointed out that the identity of the witness mentioned in Mehlis report should be known and that "the Siddiq story is fake and he was not an officer in the Syrian army but was as soldier who deserted the army service and escaped to Lebanon."
He stressed that all the accusations directed against Syria are baseless adding that Syria condemns the Hariri assassination because he was a friend to Syria.
