Nasrullah opposes dismantling Palestinians refugees weapons
Lebanon-Palestine, Politics, 10/21/2005
The secretary general of the Lebanese Hizbullah party Sheikh Hassan Nasrullah said that the party will not dismantle its weapons until after Israel releases the detained Lebanese prisoners in the occupation jails and withdraw from Shabaa Farms.
In a speech he delivered before a crowd of hundreds of persons including ministers and parliamentarians during an Iftar banquet held by the Hizbullah party south of Beirut, Nasrullah explained that his group does not defy the world but demands the realization of these demands before thinking of dismantling its weapons.
Nasrullah stressed that the Lebanese government should not seek to dismantle the weapons of the Palestinians in the camps. He said "as Lebanese party we oppose the removal of the weapons of the Palestinian camps at a time when their right to return is uncertain."
Nasrullah's statements came at a time when Hizbullah and the Palestinian armed groups in Lebanon are exposed to increasing pressure to hand over their weapons in implementation of UN Security Council resolution 1559, according to which Syria withdrew its forces from Lebanon, while the article pertinent to dismantling the weapons of Hizbullah and the Palestinians has not been implemented.
The UN special envoy to Lebanon and Syria, Terry Rod Larsen, is expected to submit a report on this matter within the few coming days.
