Palestinian support to Lebanon to remove groups weapons
Lebanon-Palestine, Politics, 10/19/2005
Lebanese prime minister Fouad Sinioura on Tuesday in Paris won strong support from France and from the chairman of the Palestinian authority Mahmoud Abbas over dismantling of the weapons of the Palestinian groups in Lebanon.
Sinioura held a two day visit to Paris during which he met with French officials, in the UN and with the Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas.
Sinioura's talks with Abbas dealt with means of implementing UN resolutions 1559 which states to dismantle the weapons of the Lebanese Hizbullah party and the Palestinian groups in Lebanon, as well as the Syrian military withdrawal from Lebanon which was completed in April this year.
Abbas considered that the Palestinians are in Lebanon as "guests" to this country, and called on them to honor Lebanon's sovereignty and to be obedient to its laws and not to interfere in its own affairs.
This came at a time when Lebanon decided to form a committee concerned with arrangements to end the armed Palestinian presence outside the camps in addition to opening a Palestinian embassy in Beirut for the first time.
Beirut says it considers that there is no need for having Palestinian weapons outside the refugee camps, considering that this does not serve the Palestinian cause, noting simultaneously to the need of solving this case by means of dialogue.
