Iraq, Politics, 10/18/2005

Several party leaders and figures in Iraq announced in conclusion of a meeting in Iraq on Monday the formation of a coalition to launch the parliamentary elections in December this year.

The meeting was held at the invitation of the former Iraqi prime minister Eyad Allawi, who is also the leader of the Iraqi List in the parliament, and who is described as a centrist.

Former Iraqi minister of planning Mahdi al-Hafez said that the aim of the alliance is to establish a political bloc which is able to achieve stability in Iraq.

Allawi seeks by this effort to return back to the limelight with a higher number of those who are described as moderate Sunni and Shiite Leadership.
