Reforms in Syria and challenges facing them
Syria, Politics, 10/18/2005

Reform in Syria faces many challenges, some are interior and the other are exterior, a Syrian economic expert said on Monday.

"Reform in Syria faces many challenges some are interior embodied in bureaucratic demonstrations and corruption, and others are exterior related to the West's lack of willingness to make any progress at the level of democracy in Syria, in addition to many other pressures connected to Syria's pan-Arab positions," Mounir al-Haamsh told a symposium on Syria's Role in a Changing World. He noted the reform process in Syria constituted a significant means to "strengthen national unity and face foreign pressures as well achieve the comprehensive social development."
