The spokesman for the special Iraqi court, on the trial of the toppled Iraqi President Saddam Hussein, Raed al- Jouhi, said on Thursday that Saddam Hussein's trial sessions which start on October 19 and will be open and in the presence of UN observers.
Al-Jouhi said in a press conference that Saddam's trial will be "open and we hope it will be transmitted live on TV," adding it will be "attended by UN observers and others."
Al-Jouhi stressed replying to a question "that several ( cases) have almost been completed, and as each case (against Saddam) matures .. it will be brought before the criminal court," noting that "the next case (against Hussein) is expected to be al-Anfal operations ( destroying Kurdish villages by the end of the 1980s ) and the operation of liquidating groups and killing civilians in Balad area (north Iraq) because this case achieved an advanced step in the investigations."
Al-Jouhi referred that "the death penalty is valid legally and nothing obstructs it. It is stated in the Iraqi law. The specialized Iraqi court is an Iraqi court that applies the Iraqi laws."
