Continued violence in Iraq
Iraq, Politics, 10/14/2005

A US military statement said on Thursday that one American soldier was killed in a bomb explosion in a vehicle in al-Dajil situated north of the capital Baghdad.

In another development, Australian soldiers in south Iraq were exposed to gunfire. This was for the first time since their deployment there. Military sources denied the occurrence of any casualties in the lines of the Australian forces which are deployed in al-Samawa area south of Iraq, noting that the gunmen who opened fire, fled.

On the other hand, unidentified gunmen assassinated Sheikh Muhammad Hussein al-Assadi, a representative for the Shiite cleric Ali al-Seistani in al-Doura area, south Baghdad. One police officer was killed and two others injured in a suicide attack in a booby trapped car in Karkouk city.
