Abul-Gheit: Iraqi issue complicated
Egypt-Iraq, Politics, 10/12/2005

Foreign Minister Ahmed Abul- Gheit said Tuesday Egypt has exchanged ideas with Britain on the activation of the Middle East process.

On the situation in Iraq, Abul- Gheit said he expressed to Foreign Secretary Jack Straw Egypt's concerns over the Iraqi file.

He described the Iraqi issue as "extremely complicated;" that it needs greater efforts, patience and time.

The matter is in the hands of the Iraqis but we have to help them sit together and deal with their differences.

Convening an Iraqi reconciliation conference at the Arab League premises is a good idea that we support, he said.

He further said that he had taken up with British officials the issue of western pressure on Syria.

Britain is keen not to see a new source of tension in the Middle East and is equally careful as it deals with the Syrian-Lebanese file, he said.
