Syrian-Lebanese relations are historical: Lebanese speaker
Lebanon-Syria, Politics, 10/12/2005
Speaker of Lebanese Parliament Nabih Berri said Tuesday that Syrian-Lebanese relations are historical and national. "Syria has helped Lebanon overcome its ordeal during the civil war and after al-Taif Accord.. the Lebanese were capable to build the Lebanese state institutions through Syrian support," Lebanese National News Agency quoted Berri as saying in a press conference held at Qatar's capital of Doha.
He stressed that Syria has implemented what is related to her in the international resolution 1559, denying any Syrian interference in the Lebanese internal affairs.
"Syrians are committed to unveil the truth in the assassination of former Lebanese Premier Rafiq Hariri, and they always ask for the facts as Lebanese do," Berri, wrapping up a visit to Qatar said.
Meanwhile, Chairman of the Socialist National Syrian Party in Lebanon, Ali Qansu, underlined adherence to national stances which gathered Lebanese unity and preserved security and stability, on top of which the Lebanese-Syrian relation and the national resistance.
Qansu, following a meeting with President Emile Lahoud of Lebanon, added that the foreign intervention poses threats to the country and makes it a victim of international interests.
For his part, Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Shiite Islamic Council Sheikh Abdulamir Kabalan said that the Lebanese will live in security and peace on their land if they are still committed to national and pan-Arab stances.
Meantime, Leader of Lebanese al-Kataeb Party (the Phalanges) Karim Pakradouni has said cooperation and coordination with Syria enhances the Lebanese national unity.
During a meeting of the Political Bureau of his Party on Monday, Pakradouni added that Lebanon's interest required boosting the Syrian-Lebanese distinguished relations.
Pakradouni also expressed concern over the attempts to direct a blow to the national unity through isolating Lebanon from its Arab environment and the seeking to damage Lebanon's relations with both Syria and the Palestinians.
