Qatar outlines foreign policy

Concerning the foreign policy, the Amir of Qatar Sheikh Hamad Bin Khalifa al-Thani renewed at the Shoura council commitment to principles of peaceful coexistence and international cooperation on the ground of reciprocated respect and common interests, and openness to civilizations and interaction with them, and believing in the need of honoring human rights and abiding by settling international disputes by peaceful means.

He indicated Qatar's continued calls to enhance the position and very role of the UN in international relations in being a representative for international legitimacy.

He explained that enhancing relations with the countries of the Gulf Cooperation Council GCC member states comes at the forefront of the foreign policies of Qatar in the seek to achieve integration among its member states especially in the economic field in manifestation of the hopes and ambitions of the Gulf citizen.

The chairman of the Shoura council in Qatar, Muhammad Bin Mubarak al-Khaleifi, then made a speech in which he stressed that the council will deliver all efforts for carrying out assigned missions and responsibilities.

He indicated that the "dawn of democracy" blossomed in Qatar under the rule of Sheikh Hamad by the abrogation of the ministry of information and abrogation of censorship on papers and printing, and holding the first free elections to choose members of the chamber of commerce and industry in Qatar and the central municipal council.

He said that achievements are still continuous in this regard and that it is expected to hold the first free and direct elections to choose members of the Shoura council, whose date is not defined yet.

The new session of the Shoura council in Qatar was attended by the cabinet ministers and heads of diplomatic missions accredited in Qatar.
