Egypt hails Syrian cooperation with UN investigation team
Egypt-Syria, Politics, 10/11/2005

"Syria has fully cooperated with the international investigation team into the assassination of former Lebanese Premier Rafiq al-Hariri, and this is worthy to appreciate her stance," Egyptian Presidential Spokesman Suleiman Awad said Monday.

Awad, in a statement following talks held in Cairo between Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak, King Abdullah II of Jordan and King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, called for not anticipating events or prejudge the UN International Investigation report, stressing for not pointing an accusation finger to Syria regarding this matter.

He added that "the tripartite summit tackled the situation in Lebanon because the issue is strongly present on the Lebanese arena, and due to the concern we feel on the stability in Lebanon."

Syria has done her duties regarding international resolutions and Egypt would not accept more problems in the region, Egyptian Foreign Minister said on Monday.

Also, in a joint press conference with his British counterpart Jack Straw, Mohammed Abou el-Gheit commented on latest developments over UN investigation on assassination of former Lebanese Prime Minister Detlev Mehlis by saying that "Syria is dealing in a very delicate way with Mehlis report, and Egypt for her part is waiting to see the outcome of the report that is scheduled to be presented to the United Nations."
