Iraqi Turks oppose the constitution
Iraq, Politics, 10/10/2005
The advisor of the national security in Iraq, Muwaffaq al-Rubei, said that if the draft constitution referendum fails in mid October, it will mean a delay in the political transfer operation in Iraq of one year or more.
Al-Rubei told CNN that the Iraqi people will approve the draft constitution.
A referendum is expected to be carried out on the Iraqi constitution on October 15. Several Sunni organizations called for rejecting this draft, considering it will lead to the partition of the country.
On the other hand, the chairman of the Iraqi- Turkmani front Saad Eddine Arkeij announced the rejections of the front for the draft constitution. He attributed that to the "unfairness" inflected on the Turks under the rule of the toppled Iraqi President Saddam Hussein, the administration of the American civilian administrator Paul Bremer and the interim and provisional government.
Arkeij considered that what was stated in the constitution will not guarantee Iraq's unity and solidarity of its components.
