Egypt calls for new vision in dealing with disarmament issues
Egypt-Regional, Politics, 10/7/2005

Egypt's Ambassador to the United Nations Maged Abdel Fattah said on Wednesday the international community should now adopt a new approach in dealing with disarmament issues.

There should be multinational framework through which all nations assert their commitment.

Addressing the UN General Assembly's committee on disarmament, he warned that retaining the current approach would lead to the collapse of the Nuclear Non-proliferation Treaty and all other international efforts to tackle disarmament issues.

This could surely happen if nuclear disarmament issues continue to be handled only through UN Security Council resolutions which tend to reflect the views of some parties at the expense of others.
