Lebanese army prepares for any Israeli landing in Palestinian camps
Lebanon-Palestine, Politics, 10/7/2005

News reports in Lebanon said that the Lebanese army ordered its units positioned around the Palestinian camps to take necessary measures to confront Israeli likely landing of its forces in the area.

This came after members of the Lebanese parliament launched a campaign for the removal of the weapons of the Palestinian camps, amid complaints of a siege imposed by the Lebanese army at positions of a Palestinian organization described as supportive for Syria.

However, several Lebanese parliamentarians led by opposition parliamentarian Michael Aoun demanded the government of Fouad Sinioura to remove the weapons in the camps and accused it of being slow in dealing with the case.

For its part, the People's Front For Liberation of Palestine - General Command criticized the government of Sinioura because of what it described as "the pressure siege" imposed on many of this organization's military positions in Lebanon.

The Lebanese minister of information Ghazi al-Aridi rejected the demands to dismantle the weapons in the camps and that of Hizbullah, according to UN security council resolution 1559.

Al-Aridi said in conclusion of a meeting for the Lebanese government that these two files cannot be solved except through internal Lebanese dialogue, stressing that Lebanon will not accept to destroy itself for the sake of others, but he gave no further details.
