Campaign in Lebanese parliament against weapons in camps
Lebanon-Palestine, Politics, 10/6/2005

Members in the Lebanese parliament on Wednesday launched a campaign aimed at removing any weapons present in Palestinian camps, amid complaints of a siege imposed by the Lebanese army around sites of a pro-Syria Palestinian organization.

Al-Jazeera satellite TV said that the Lebanese parliament Thursday will hold a session in order to discuss the security policy in the country after a series of explosions Lebanon suffered. This was at the request of the bloc of the leader of the opposition Michael Aoun.

The correspondent added that several parliamentarians including parliament member Rabab Ghanem called on the government of Prime Minister Sinioura to dismantle the weapons from the camps.

Member in the bloc of parliamentarian Niimatullah Abi al-Naser said during the session that "if the dismantling of the weapons of Hizbullah stated in the UN Security Council resolution 1559 needs an internal dialogue" then "why does the government not implement the part relating to the weapons in the camps stated in this resolution."

These demands set by members of Aoun bloc came when the People's Front For Liberation of Palestine - General Command criticized the government of Sinioura because of what it described "the siege" imposed on several of its military positions in Lebanon.
