Lebanon, Politics, 10/5/2005
The Lebanese Cabinet appointed Wafiq al-Jazzini as a commander for general security in succession of Jamil al-Sayyed who submitted his resignation six months ago and is currently under custody under accusations of involvement in the assassination of the former Lebanese prime minister Rafiq al-Hariri, 8 months ago.
The Lebanese minister of information Ghazi al-Aridi said after a meeting for the Cabinet that the new appointment does not necessarily mean the end to security problems, though this is a very important step on the way to rebuild security establishments, adding that the series of criminality and terrorism is ongoing.
The most recent of this series in an attempt in North Beirut on Saturday to blowing off the car of judge Nazim al-Khouri who is investigating corruption issues. Sources in Lebanon said he had received accusations in recent days.
