New private university in Damascus

Syria's Minister of Higher Education, Hani Murtada, said Syria is keen to widen and diversify the scope of higher education, and to enable students follow up academic studies as part of a national program that is up to international standards.
The minister, opening a new private university 'The Syrian International For Sciences and Technology' in the Damascene suburban of Sahnaya, added that "everybody is called to take part in the process of building the nation and society...This process requires the participation of the state and private universities."
For his part, Rector of the university Abdul Majid Abdul Hadi al-Saadoun said in remarks at the opening ceremony that building this university in Syria reflects depth of the fraternal, historical and geographic ties between Syria and Iraq.
He added that his university depended on international advanced standards in terms of curriculums, saying it is linked to many Arab and foreign colleges.
The 'The Syrian International For Sciences and Technology' consists of 22 colleges, including Medicine, Pharmacy, Engineering, Computer, Oil Engineering and Management.
