Iraqi oil minister escapes assassination

The Iraqi oil minister Ibrahim Naher al-Oloum escaped a new assassination attempt in north of Baghdad on Monday. The minister was not harmed in the attack which resulted in killing two of his personal guards and wounding two others.

A spokesman for the Iraqi ministry of oil said that gunmen detonated a bomb targeting the procession of the minister on the bridge which leads to al-Taji area in al-Rashedeyah, north of Baghdad.

The spokesman indicated that the minister of oil was on his way to Beji ( 200 km north of Baghdad) to attend a special ceremony of ending maintenance works for Beiji refinery that lasted for two months with the aim of increasing oil byproducts production.
